Chris Edwards Landscape Artist
I can trace a love of landscape and art back to my earliest memories when I wandered the lanes, woodland and beaches of Kilkhampton, a small village in North Cornwall .
At Art School, above all else, I learnt the importance of careful observation. Then, at college, I fell in love with the rich and subtle colours and consistency of oil paint.
I know Cornwall with the intimacy of a keen walker and one-time sea angler, especially the area nearest my home. Here, I am in my element.
I make many preliminary studies of the places that inspire me but I try to hold one key idea in mind as I work on canvas in my studio. As the idea takes shape I hope to capture something emotive that the viewer can share, so the painting can live on, holding more than just colour, texture, line and form.
I exhibit my work at The Castle, Bude; Handmade Framing and Gallery Kilkhampton; the Lander Gallery, Truro and the Bush Inn, Morwenstow. My work has also been accepted for the South West Academy of Artists Open Exhibitions 2013 and 2014 in Exeter; for the National Trust Open Exhibition 2014 at Mottisfont House; the Cornwall Wildlife Trust Inspired and Wild 2011 Exhibition and the 2015 Art Exhibition to raise funds for Cancer Research at the Public Hall, Liskeard.
Cornwall is a land of myth, ancient, powerful, and elemental. This, I believe, is inherent in my work.
